Title: Rigidity and Cartan's 5 variable paper
Abstract:
Cartan's 5 variable paper gave an elaborate local study of a remarkable class of differential systems, with one particular example having symmetry group G2. I will explain how recent work in complex algebraic geometry uncovers a global rigidity theorem, proving that Cartan's example is the only holomorphic example on any smooth projective variety.
