Title: Mathematics of Quantum Computing: Ideas and Reality

Abstract:
This talk goes over the basics of quantum computing, gives a high-level view of Shor's quant um-assisted integer factorization algorithm, introduces one of the key designs of Quantum er ror correction - the toric code - and emphasizes the need for native topological protection of quantum information.

The talk is an introductory overview of quantum computing concepts meant for mathematicians. Basic familiarity with the principles of quantum mechanics is assumed.

Event: Diffieties, Cohomological Physics, and Other Animals, 13-17 December 2021, Moscow.
Alexandre Vinogradov Memorial Conference.
