Title: Whitham's averaging method

Abstract:
We will formulate phenomenological approach by Whitham for averaging periodic (moreover, multi-phase) solutions of partial differential equations defined by a local action.

The examples of the sine-Gordon, KdV, NLS, and KP equations will be discussed.
